Royal Blood

A new leader rises...

With the new codex coming our, I will be advancing my background of my band of renegades. Partly because I like building archons and because I'm not satisfied with my main force, especially the paint scheme is dissatisfying.

So how to start? Fluff wise, Xiantos is not dead, just defeated, but as he has survived with his blaster- & splinter born alive, he is still an Allie to be used. How all that happened will take some time to write down...

So who is the new leader, who took the power away from Xiantos? So far, no clue :-D
What I do know, he has royal blood, he wants to go back to commorragh and I guess he'll be themed around the old/new horrorfexes/PGL and will wear the cruelty ghost plate armour. I'm even considering using the WWP without a vehicle as I find the idea of an archon just walking onto the battlefield just metres behind the enemy HQ hilarious :-D

Well I guess this is it so far. Let's see what will become out of my idea ;-)  any tips and suggestions are greatly appreciate and can be put into the comments or as a pm on www.thedarkcity.net

The Masterplan: An Introduction

I can not believe it myself, a post after less then 3 month. I guess the new year will be a productive one :-)

So first of all, happy new year, I hope all is well and will stay that way for a long time. And may the hobby be with you (and me ;-) ). So this time, I wanted to give you a short overview over my Dark Eldar Master Plan and also go over the first part of the first list.
My intention: I have around 6000 points worth of DE, old and new. The old Models are for the most part painted, but a lot (around 80%) of the new DE models I currently possess are not painted and I wanna change that. I did not want to paint it all in the same colours, as I think it's important to differentiate between the different fractions cabal, cult, coven & groups like reavers, scourges or mandrakes. It's also nice to change the paint scheme once in a while :-)

So my goal is a list with different fractions coming together to form a raiding party. This way I can also add different cabals, as I want to build more then two archons. they will all get a contingent of warriors at their side, and the size of their contingent will be directly related to their place in the raiding party.

So the first part of the list will be my main party or the exiled Cabal .........
Their leader is the Dread Archon Xantios, he got exiled from Commorragh for killing a Harlequin Master.
He wanted his clothes and now has to live with the consequences. No need to mention, that his goal is to return to the dark city. This he wants to achieve either by force or by making a name of himself and for both, he needs a big raiding force.
+ HQ + (385)
Archon Xiantos
Blaster, Combat Drugs, Djin Blade, Haywire Grenades, Kabalite Armour, Phantasm Grenade Launcher, Plasma Grenades, Shadow Field, Soul-trap, Huskblade

I chose to take the 3 weapons to give him the feel of a pirate as pirates tend to have a nice collection of weapons. Also, the HG,CD and the S-T are all toys a real Dread Archon should have.

Here is a picture of Xiantos.
He is still very much in progress, as he will get a new hat, like the one the Fantasy Finecast Witchhunter has.

Next up is the Mistress of The Haunting Night, Vevina.
She is a ruthless killer and longs for the big price. She takes on Commanders and Heros just to show her superiority over the lesser races. But it's also a hint to Xiantos, as in time she could be able to overthrow him, but it's not like a cruel and calculating evil space elve like Xiantos hasn't already planned for that.

Archon Vevina
Combat Drugs, Haywire Grenades, Huskblade, Kabalite Armour, Phantasm Grenade Launcher, Plasma Grenades, Shadow Field, Soul-trap, Splinter Pistol

Her war gear has no place for gimmicks, as she only fights for the kill.
She has great ambition, but one weak point. She likes Dracon Pelios for how he adores here. Not that she would sacrifice herself for him but enough for Xiantos to manipulate here, and that will be here downfall.

Vevina is finished.

She stands on top of a part of a cybot, to show that when she is "on souls" she will take on anyone.

Hope you enjoyed this little introduction to my master plan. So next up will be the Elite section. With the Incubi, the Blaster- & Splinter-Born.

It's been to long...

So what shall I say, it's not like I didn't want to post something I just didn't get to it... Yeah, for more then a year, I know. So anyway, a tiny update on what my current hobby status is:

- Tantalus: still deep in progress... sometime..

- Dark Eldar: I'm currently planning my Dark Eldar Master Plan and I know odds are, I will never complete it, but if I even finish 30% of it, I would have around 2000 points of painted models. That is reason enough to try to take the hill. More on the master plan later.

- Word Bearers: So I have finished 20 marines, primed ~15 cultists, finished converting a defiler, and build 2 Dark Apostles, one also finished painted. And bought a Dark Vengeance box, boy those are some fine models. I guess they are still just a side project, but still fun to paint and convert so be prepared for some minor updates.

- Emperor's Children: Oh boy, I hate you Forgeworld, I'm currently at the crossroads with them. Do I buy some of the new, cool and pretty models they have, even though they would just look different to those I have, or do I replace my hole army, but hell, that's a **** load of money. Good that I still have some not finished models. E.g. my Legion Standard Bearer

- Podcasts: No, if I'm not even fit to post a blog article per year, I'm not going to start a podcast :-) But I'm currently listening to a few podcasts on my daily way to my internship and wanted to promote 40k podcasts in general, as they do a lot for the community. They promote events, interview players, painters, writers and more. They talk tactics, army building and gaming philosophy and show you different views on the hobby.
And for me personally, they have kept me connected with the hobby, as for the last few most (my internship) I rarely had time for hobby stuff. I think because of those podcasts I came back to this blog, so thank to the guys from:
- The Heroic 28s
- The 11th Company
- The Independent Character
- HittingOn3s
- 40k UK
- Life After The Cover Save
- Turn 8
- Deepstrike Radio

I guess the first 3 are really my favorites, and there are more hobby podcasts out there (haven't found a German one yet) so go and check them out, you will not be disappointed!

- Books and Audio Dramas/Books:
I have just finished the latest Gaunts Ghosts Novel and must say I was a little disappointed because it ends just to quickly. They could easily have added another 50 pages and explained if it was worth the fight, but I guess there will be another book. Anyone know when this will hit the shelves?
But I guess i'll use the time to catch up on the HH Books. My last one was Fear to Threat which was a great read. There is a lot of information in this book, I guess I count it to one of my favorites of the HH series.
The last Audio Book if heard was Prospero Burns. I was really impressed but nothing can top the Garro series. 40k Audio in general is just great. What do you guys think?

So this will be it for now, next post will hopefully not take as long as this and will be about the Dark Eldar Master Plan, hope to see you again next time. Also i'm all up for critics and sugestions.

And yet just another Blogger?

Or what the heck is his problem?

Well first of all, welcome to my blog, how you have found me, may be a mystery or just plain luck, just know something, you should stay as i hope to make worth your while ;-)

I've been on a good bunch of boards, since i started wargaming, and i've enjoyed most of them and will not wanna miss those times but lately i'm fed up reading about Good Units, Bad Units and what should be used against this Unit or that Unit. I just wanna play my Mandraks and have some fun with them. That doesn't meat beating the s*** out of so other Unit, it means using the Unit as close to the background as possible.

Where are those, that play the game just for the sake of playing a cool army, that looks cool, and fights for their individual goal, may it be the survival of their race, or the utter annihilation of the fools that dared challenge your faith in the mighty God Emperor!
Where is the Spirit of having a great looking Army, build around a theme, not because that theme is the most effective in the tournament meta, but because it just looks plain AWESOME!

A good example are the Angry Marines

A funny Idea, thats not super effective but is great fun to field on a board. Thats something i have missed in my last games, it wasn't real that satisfying, even though i was winning. Is it just me or is anyone else pulled into competitive play? Its nearly all i read about on the net. Whats wrong with this, why this one is better then the other and 3 Steps to up your game.....

I really want to give a f***, so this will be my journey back to having a ton of fun with my toy soldiers!

And now?

Well to start, i will start collecting armies with a special theme in mind, some fitting to the background of our beloved hobby, some, well we'll say, just cause of the fun of it. all these will probably not be over the 1000point each, so just some fun armies. The first will be my Pre Heresy/Heresy/Crazy Word Bearers.

Another "little" Project will be my Dark Eldar. They are by far my favorite army, and thus get some extra attention ;-)
Current Dark Eldar Project is my Coven Tantalus. I hope to get him finished 'till German GD '12 but well se about that ;-)

So that's it for now. So am I the only one with this Powergaming dilemma? Would love to here your opinions on that.
